The Lochcarron Highland Games took place in warm and dry conditions last week, and the crowds turned out to witness some great entertainment.
There were performances by the Isle of Skye Pipe Band, the Skye Highland Dancers and Gaelic singers from Lochcarron Primary School; the most heavy competitors ever, with six guys battling it out, and Jamie Gunn coming out on top, setting a new ground record in the weight for distance.

A spokesperson for the games committee added: “We were also proud to hold the first ever Lochcarron Ladies heavy event with eight entrants, and Rachel Tice from California taking the top spot.
“The athletics field was as strong as ever, with newcomer to Lochcarron Luc Macleod, and regular Daisy Hendry taking the respective top athlete accolades. Luc set new ground records in both the 400m and long jump. The famous hill race had a slightly smaller entry this year, no doubt due to the unusually warm weather, but Philip Vokes still managed a storming first place, although didn’t quite manage to beat the course record that he set last year.
“The tug o’ war remains one of the hotly contested activities on the day and it was great to see so many teams taking part. It was clear that we had visitors from around the world and the international audience do seem to love the games vibe. We had a large youth group visiting from France who took part in many of the track and field events, hill race and tug o’war with great enthusiasm.”
There was also a wonderful array of stalls and exhibitors and some fabulous food. The Lochcarron Sailing Club team also did a sterling job of the family activity area that was busy all day long.

As well as thanking all the volunteers, athletes and visitors, the committee also thanked:
the sponsors Bakkafrost Scotland, Dunvegan Castle and Gardens, Kishorn Port Ltd, Ferguson Transport and Shipping, Attadale Gardens, Gilbert Gilkes and Gordon Ltd, Lochcarron Food Centre – SPAR Lochcarron, Lochcarron of Scotland, Linzi’s Lolly’s, DMK Motors, Jewsons, Lou Lou and Chris Troup, Conon Brae Estate, the family of Major Tom Wills.
