Alzheimer Scotland held a Christmas event in Portree on Friday of last week. Thanks to funding from Bòrd na Gàidhlig, their Gaelic gathering was in Shepherd’s Way Church. Dementia advisor Lesley Hellon said: “In attendance where people living with dementia, their carers, family and friends. We had an afternoon of festive music and song. We were very pleased to have Nan Cleghorn’s young musicians, Còmhlan Ceòl Nan, come along to play to us – how fantastic they are, future budding artists indeed.

“We also had singers from Portree Gaelic Choir and the Island Chorus, singing Christmas songs and carols in English and Gaelic. It is always a pleasure to see the local community join us to celebrate with us, as Alzheimer Scotland believes that nobody should face dementia alone.”

Over the festive season there is a 24-hour dementia helpline Freephone 0808 808 3000 or email helpline@alzscot.org.
