Skye boxer Andrew Coogan has landed more success in the ring, after winning the Scottish intermediate title in Glasgow last weekend.
The Breakish-born lightweight pounced on his title shot by defeating reigning champion Ciaran MacClafferty in a ferociously-contested fight at the Ashgill Centre in Glasgow.
In a recent bout at the Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell Andrew beat Jordan McBride of Glenrothes by split decision to secure his place in men’s elite lightweight intermediate final.
Andrew had been preparing for the fight by training six days a week at the Highland Boxing Academy in Inverness. He has also travelled with his HBA club mates around the country to spar with some of the top clubs.
This latest title now means Coogan now stands as the current elite Scottish novice and intermediate champion.
In November he won the novice title at the first attempt.
Andrew will now return to Skye to work with his brother’s building firm before heading back to Inverness to start his training camp for HBA’s home show at the Mercure Hotel Inverness on the 23rd of April.
The 22-year-old is a late boxing convert, having taken up the sport just two years ago – initially to improve fitness.
