Cheeky drugs tweet gives Skye cops an internet hit

A cocaine find on Skye became an unlikely internet sensation this week, following a cheeky twitter message from local police.

The Lochaber and Skye police tweet on Saturday read: “If you get back to your house tonight on #Skye and realise your cocaine is missing – we have it in the Police station #WeNeedAWord”.

The twitter message, which has been shared over 3000 times

It quickly caught the public attention, and by Monday the message had been shared over 3,900 times via the social networking site.

Sergeant Bruce Crawford from the Portree Community Policing Team told the Free Press that officers had carried out the search following a tip off from the public. However, the occupant of the address had yet to be traced.

“Phenomenal response,” said Sergeant Bruce Crawford

He added: “The response to the tweet has been phenomenal and by far the most interacted with message on our feed.  The light-hearted tone of the tweet aims to convey a serious message that officers in this area will take swift action against anyone suspected of being involved in the supply of drugs. I wish to thank the members of the community who have provided information to assist us with this and ask that anyone with information regarding controlled drugs contacts the Police on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800555111”
