Tradbeats at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig

Shooglenifty will be in concert

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig will play host to a traditional music festival with a difference next weekend.

The ‘Tradbeats’ festival has traditional arts at its core, but promises to “reawaken them in a modern, upbeat context”. Taking place at Sabhal Mòr on 28th-29th November, the festival offers young people (age 14 -25) an opportunity to meet with other musicians, singers and dancers.

The weekend will comprise of workshops exploring rhythmical links between Gaelic mouth music, step dance, beat-boxing and body percussion with group sessions for collaboration and arrangement.

Leading the workshops are Gaelic singers Griogair Labhraidh and Eilidh Munro, step dancers Sophie Stephenson and Mairi Britton and beatboxer Lewis Macrae. There will also be a riffs and rhythms workshop led by trad fusion group Shooglenifty. On the Saturday evening there is to be a concert hosted by SEALL featuring Shooglenifty along with the TradBeats tutors.

TradBeats is supported by the ‘Time to Shine’ fund through the Highland Youth Arts Hub’s ‘Creative in Your Community’ scheme.
