Andrew Walker is the new councillor for the Benbecula and North Uist ward on Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
Mr Walker secured 437 votes in the by-election contest yesterday (Thursday), while SNP candidate Roslyn MacPherson received 302 votes.
There were 739 valid papers, and 31 rejected ballot papers. Turnout was 33.2 per cent.
The by-election was called after the resignation of sitting councillor Archie Campbell.
The poll was conducted by single transferable vote.
