The Fàs Mòr childcare facility on Skye now boasts a newly-developed outdoor area thanks to an Awards for All lottery grant of £8,980.
Based in Sleat, the facility has recently had its outdoor area improved to create a softer and flatter surface, while a range of new outdoor toys have also been purchased to make the space more fun for the little ones. Fàs Mòr has also teamed up with local architecture company Dualchas to remodel another outdoor grassy area and at an open day in February children, parents and members of the local community were invited along to give their thoughts on how they’d like this area to be used.
Fàs Mòr will now apply for funding in order to make these plans a reality.
Mick MacNeil, chairman of the Fàs Mòr board, said: “It’s been great to see our plans for the outdoor area coming to life. We have a fantastic indoor space but we could see there was room for improvement outside. As with all these projects you rely on a lot of good will from the local community and we’d like to thank Dualchas for their involvement. The kids love all the new toys and can’t wait for the grassy area to be redeveloped.”
This week also saw Fàs Mòr welcome a new member of staff, Emma Jane MacAskill from Eabost. A former student at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Emma Jane has recently returned from Australia where she was working as an au pair.
Fàs Mòr provides day and after-school care for children aged 0-12. It is a Gaelic-medium facility but is open to non-Gaelic-speaking children from the entire community. For more information see fasmor.co.uk.
