Shinty’s stars of the future showcased their skills in Fort William on Saturday at the annual RBS national indoor festival.
The festival includes two tournaments — one for pupils in primary five and under, and another for those in primary seven and under.
The competing teams had all qualified from various district competitions held over the winter.
In the primary seven-and-under competition Skye and Lochalsh was well represented by teams from Portree, South Skye and Kyle of Lochalsh. And it was the mainland side who fared the best of them — winning four and drawing one of their six group-stage matches to reach the semi-finals.
The Kyle team were eventually beaten in the last four by Park, but they could take plenty of pride from their efforts on the day.
The final brought Park up against Kyles Athletic, who had overcome Lochaber in the other semi-final. In keeping with the high standards set throughout the day, the final proved a classic tussle. The Oban side raced into a 5-1 lead, before Kyles rallied to bring it back to 5-4. At this stage it could have gone either way, but it was Park who grabbed the all-important final goal to win 6-4 and take the trophy.
In the primary five-and-under tournament, local representation came from Dunvegan and Portree. Competition was again fierce, but in the end it was Beauly who emerged victorious after beating Bute in the final.
