A young Skye girl has donated 10 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust, as well as raising £775 for the charity.
Willow Ferguson from Brogaig, Staffin, decided she wanted her hair – which fell past her waist – to be cut as she was “fed up of it getting tuggy”, mum Ann Marie said.
However, in an attempt to persuade her daughter to keep her hair, Ann Marie explained how lucky she was to have it as some children lost their hair through illness and had to wear wigs.
“Willow was intrigued as to how the wigs were made,” Ann Marie explained. “I told her that people donate their hair when they get their hair cut and Willow immediately said that’s what she wanted to do. Initially she wanted to cut five to six inches off but, after I researched it, we found the minimum donation to the Little Princess Trust was seven inches. She wasn’t fazed at all by this and actually decided she would cut her hair to her shoulders. In total this was 10 inches.”
The primary two pupil at Staffin Primary had her hair chopped off last Saturday and has so far raised £775.
