Last Sunday a Skye and Lochalsh under-17 select squad pushed Ross County’s youth team all the way in a specially-arranged challenge match in Portree.

Weather conditions weren’t ideal for a game of football, but both sets of teams showed enthusiasm and no little skill to make it a good contest.

The game was a close-fought battle from start to end, with Ross County edging it by one goal to nil — a very respectful scoreline for the Skye select side who, on another day, could have got something out of the match.

Skye were excellent defensively with Will Cowie, Lachlan MacInnes and Ryan O’ Halloran particularly impressive. Going forward Johnny Laing proved to be a constant thorn in the Ross County defence. The Skye team are hoping to head for a return match in Dingwall in the coming months.
