fantasy shinty update

The shinty season is nearly at a close and so is Fantasy Shinty, brought to you by the West Highland Free Press. Managing your team through the trials and tribulations of a season can be an arduous task, as our fantasy managers have found out. Below-par performances, red cards, own goals and the occasional dubious call from the referee can test the patience of even the most grizzled campaigner, with the crunch relegation, promotion and championship battles adding to the tension.

The latest Fantasy Shinty scores can be found on the next web page, and there are some exceptional managerial performers, as well as the odd haddie. The fantasy manager, with a finger on the pulse, would have included Kingussie’s peerless Ronald Ross in their starting XII. Ronald has been in top goal-scoring form again this season. Commiserations to those managers who didn’t pick him, barring Ronald picking up an injury, you really had little chance of winning. Other stand-out players, proving to be astute fantasy selections, are Graham Kennedy and Neil Fraser of Kinlochshiel, Kevin Thain from Kingussie, Robert Walker of Bute, Steven Morrison of Skye and Jim Clark of Fort William.

Congratulations go to John Toal who is in Fantasy Shinty pole position at this stage of the season. Martin Stewart, John MacLeod and Martin Bruce lead the chasing pack of fantasy managers.

The Wooden Spoon, for performances so far, goes to Laura MacKay's Sam's Squad, with Lexy Wilson not too far off the bottom place; come on ladies!
