Seafood lovers are in for a treat with the recent opening of two new businesses in Wester Ross.
The Seafood Shack on West Argyle Street, Ullapool, owned and operated by Kirsty Scobie and Fenella MacRae, serves seafood landing in the village — some of it by their partners who fish and dive in Loch Broom. Both women have worked in local catering jobs and Fenella — who is orginally from Achmore — has a family background in both fishing and seafood sales. Among the range of seafood on offer are king scallops, langoustines and mussels.
Over at Achiltibuie meanwhile, local woman Suzie MacGregor has opened the Salt Seafood Kitchen at Badenscallie. Having travelled and worked in catering and the seafood industry — including the award winning Kirshorn Seafood Bar — Suzie has now established her own business in a converted self-catering chalet overlooking the Summer Isles where she sources her langoustine, crab, lobster and hand-dived scallops from the local boats and fishermen working the coast.
Local businesses and tourist groups have welcomed the addition of the two new seafood outlets and hopes are high that both visitors and locals alike will appreciate the opportunity to sample locally caught and supplied produce throughout the summer months.
