The Portree Hotel is now officially open following a major refurbishment programme by pub operator Punch Taverns which has given the building a new lease of life.

The five-month, £1 million joint investment project has seen the hotel on Somerled Square completely gutted and transformed into a family-friendly venue at the heart of the village.

It has been given a stylish makeover both internally and externally, and now boasts 24 en-suite bedrooms, a 90-seat bar and restaurant, a meeting room which is available for hire and a function room.

An extensive menu offers something for everyone from light lunches to hearty evening meals and children are well catered for with their own menu, colouring sheets and activities to keep them entertained. The drinks menu is equally impressive with a large selection of Scottish malts and gins alongside a number of cask and craft ales. Regular, live music entertainment is planned and key sporting events will be shown on large TV screens.

The rejuvenated Portree Hotel is now run in partnership with Punch Taverns by local businessmen Calum Gillies and Campbell Dickson, although the day-to-day running of the hotel will be left in the capable hands of hotel manager Ellie MacPherson, bar and restaurant manager Kevin Murphy and a 35-strong team of catering, bar and waiting staff.

Campbell said: “The hotel is looking fantastic, and we have received positive feedback from local residents who are pleased to see the building brought back to life. I have a young, vibrant team in charge of the hotel and they have some great ideas for driving the business forward ensuring that we offer something for everyone. But above all, our priority is to provide excellent service and a warm welcome to all.”
