Gairloch pupils scoop £3,000 for community car scheme

The Gairloch Community Car Scheme have received a £3,000 donation following a Youth and Philanthropy Initiative event at the local high school.

YPI tasks school pupils with finding out about the social issues affecting their local community, and the charities which support them. With this research done pupils are split into groups to create presentations about their chosen charities, and the winning presentation collects £3,000 for their charity.

Following a charity fair in May, six groups of S3 Gairloch pupils prepared presentations on Befrienders Highland, Highland Hospice, Gairloch Community Car Scheme, Gairloch and Loch Ewe Action Forum, Ross-shire Women’s Aid and CLIC Sargent, which were presented to judges last Wednesday.

In the end, the team representing the Gairloch Community Car Scheme  – Connor Forbes, Cameron Tallach, Gregor Vickerstaff, Carla Watson and Breah Stephen – were judged to have given the best presentation and were presented with a £3,000 cheque by Bruce Alexander of Scottish and Southern Energy, who are co-sponsors of the YPI in Scotland.
