Midweek football: Sleat top after Portree held to a draw

Sleat and Strath moved two points clear at the top of the Skye and Lochalsh League table after a 7-0 thrashing of Kyle on Tuesday evening.

Youngster Josh Knowles grabbed a double, with Callum Mattinson, James Munley, Ben Yoxon, Gordy McCarroll and Calum MacRae also on target for the defending champions.

Calum MacRae grabbed Sleat and Strath’s seventh against Kyle

Portree slipped to second after being held to a 2-2 draw against North West Skye.

Twice Allan ‘Ginger’ MacKinnon put the hosts ahead, but an own-goal and a strike from Iain MacCusbic earned North West a share of the spoils.

Kyleakin are level in second spot after second-half goals from Gavin Finnie and Stuart Gillies helped them win 2-0 at GA United.

John Murphy was on target as Portree Juniors beat Plockton

And in what is shaping up to be the closest title race in years, Portree Juniors stay a point further back after a 2-1 victory over Plockton. John Murphy and Chris MacNab got the all-important goals for the islanders.

The first silverware of the season will be decided tonight (Friday) when Portree meet Kyleakin in the GF MacRae Cup Final. Kick-off in Kyleakin is at 7.15pm.
