Funding boost for north Skye group

Skye and Lochalsh MSP David Thompson has welcomed the news that the North West Skye Recreation Association is to receive £23,500 of funding.

The funding is part of the £1 million Legacy 2014 Sustainable Sport for Communities Fund, which offers new or aspiring social enterprises money to help them obtain a wide range of professional and other support to explore their ambitions for facility provision.

Ian Blackford, one of the association’s directors, told the Free Press that the money would be used to appoint a project officer to take on securing revenue and capital funding for the project as well as managing the building phase of a new recreation centre for the area.

Mr Thompson said: “I am pleased that North West Skye Residents Association has been named as one of 21 groups who will benefit from this round of funding and I welcome the fact that it will impact positively on the community as a result of it being able to obtain a wider range of professional and other support to explore their ambitions to enhance facility provision in the locale.”
