Skye and Lochalsh junior football season comes to a close

An under-15s tournament in Plockton last Saturday brought a successful end to the Skye and Lochalsh junior football season.

The North West Skye/Bernisdale side came out on top in the five-team tournament, after amassing 10 points on the day. Plockton took the runners-up slot on seven points. Also competing were Portree, Staffin and Broadford.

NWS/Bernisdale (pictured) also won the league this year, and the team were presented with the trophy on the day. Completing a good year for the club, Ben Nicolson picked up both the player of the tournament and player of the year awards.

Under-18s player of the year was Portree’s Will Cowie, and he was presented with the award recently by Ben Yoxon, the current Skye and Lochalsh player of the year.

Meanwhile, an under-15s five-a-side indoor tournament will take place in Portree on 6th December. A similar competition for under-18s is planned for January.

Junior football and its development will be the subject of a meeting being held this month by the Skye and Lochalsh Junior Football Association and the Active Schools programme.

All volunteers, coaches, and parents of any players in the local youth scene are invited to attend the meeting which takes place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 19th November in Portree High School.
