There was a party atmosphere in Aultbea in Wester Ross last week as the new play park was officially opened.
Pupils from Bualnaluib Primary School were piped into the play park by youngsters Liam Forbes and Max Grigor and Aultbea Community Council member Fiona MacKenzie addressed the crowd. She congratulated the children on picking the equipment for the play park and passed ownership of it into their hands.
Bualnaluib head teacher Jean Ross then paid tribute to Fiona for her hard work on the project before the children gave the new equipment a thorough try-out. They were joined by some older residents who gave the zip wire and nest swing a test run and the playhouse was turned into an ice cream parlour with sauce and sprinkles, bubbles, balloons and lucky dip.
Fay Cavanagh, the daughter of Janet Hepburn, was joined at the opening by extended family from as far afield as Hastings to commemerate her mother, who ran countless activities for children during her time in Aultbea 20 years ago. A memorial bench to Janet will be installed on the site shortly.
