Skye Dolphins in search for new coach

The Skye Dolphins junior swimming club are appealing for new members and a coach to help them out with training.

Having been a very strong presence in Skye and Lochalsh for many years, with swimmers achieving great success at Highland and national level, the club has gone through a lean phase of late.

But Skye Dolphins still has 20 members, ranging in age from eight through to 16, who travel to club sessions in Portree from throughout Skye and Lochalsh.

Coaches are either parent volunteers or former swimmers who have done the first stage of coaching through the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association. In the last 18 months both of the club’s experienced level two coaches have moved on, so the Dolphins would welcome anyone who may have experience or interest in working with swimming clubs and could commit to coaching.

The Dolphins meet three evenings per week at the Fingal Centre in Portree — Tuesday 5pm-6pm; Thursday 6pm-7.30pm and Friday 5pm-6pm. Swimmers are encouraged to attend at least two sessions per week. New swimmers need to complete an assessment and pass a month’s trial before committing to the monthly subscription, which currently stands at £20 per swimmer.

The Skye Dolphins will be offering taster sessions this Saturday from 12 noon until 3pm as part of an open day event at Portree’s Fingal Centre.
