Hundreds of locals and visitors flocked to Stornoway last weekend to witness one of the most memorable events of the year.
On the Friday night the 2014 Tattoo Innse Gall was held on the Castle Green as part of the Hebridean Homecoming celebrations, with a concert at Ionad Spors Leodhais the following evening.
Just for good measure, Saturday also witnessed the annual Stornoway Carnival with a procession of pipe bands and floats making their way through the town centre.
In all, eight pipe bands were in attendance throughout the weekend and there was also an appearance from 40 Viking “raiders” from the Shetland Up Helly Aa festival, complete with flaming torches.
The stars of the show, however, were the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band from Vancouver, Canada, who demonstrated just why they are regarded as world-class performers.
The tattoo — last held in 2009 — culminated in a breath-taking fireworks display.
Event organiser Tony Robson said: “Everything went really well. We were very fortunate with the weather and everyone seemed to have a great time. I would like everyone who turned out and all the performers and helpers. Maybe we can do the same again in another five years.”
