Lochcarron Garage was named High Street Hero of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony held in Shropshire recently.
Since taking over the 40-year-old business from his father, Duncan and Chrissy Ross have taken the business to a new level — increasing sales by 30 per cent in the last year.
The couple received the award at the annual Pro-retail Awards organised by Palmer and Harvey, the UK’s largest delivered wholesaler.
During winter powercuts Duncan and Chrissy visited many of their elderly customers to make sure they had heat, lighting and provisions. They leave their exterior rest rooms unlocked 24 hours a day for public use. In addition, they try to be as sustainable as possible and have a flock of 120 hens supplying the store with fresh eggs.
Speaking after the awards, Mrs Ross said: “We were both delighted with our award which came as a complete surprise. We don’t usually look to the limelight for what we do but we are pleased to accept the award on behalf of our staff and loyal customers in Lochcarron and beyond. As we are in a remote location, it is always great to achieve recognition for the hard work all our staff put in but the award really belongs to all the people we support and who support us in turn – in our local community.”
