Defibrillator housed in old Skye telephone box

An old red telephone kiosk in Bernisdale is now home to a defibrillator, thanks to the efforts of local residents Dougie and Pam Smith and the Lucky2BHere charity.

The couple bought the phone box from BT for £1 last year as part  the “adopt a kiosk” scheme. It’s now complete with new signs, from Ross MacFarlane, while Finlay MacNab carried out the necessary electrical work. This week Ross Cowie from Lucky2BHere and Angie Murchison, who had helped to organise a local heart-start training course, presented the couple with the defibrillator.

In 2011 Pam, along with Ross’s niece Megan Cowie, swam from Raasay to Skye to raise £15,000 for the Lucky2BHere appeal. Pictured with Pam and Dougie are Finlay MacNab, Angie Murchison, Ross Cowie and local residents Sandy Shanks and Ross MacFarlane.
