The MacKinnon Memorial Hospital in Broadford has a new specialist mattress donated in memory of a Skye woman who died last year.
Staff at the hospital recently took delivery of the pressure-relieving mattress, which was purchased in memory of the late Rhoda MacGillivray from Sleat.
Following her death last year, Mrs MacGillivray’s husband and friends undertook a sponsored walk in her memory and as a thank you for the care and dedication that Rhoda received at the MacKinnon during her illness. In atrocious conditions 19 people walked the 11 miles from Borreraig to Suisinish, raising over £3500 in the process.
The money was used to purchase the specialised mattress, which is pivotal in the prevention and treatment of pressure sores.
Broadford resident Mary-Kate Smith, one of the first patients to use the mattress, is pictured with Charlie MacGillivray and nursing staff Catherine Partington, Kate Watkins, Margaret Wilkinson, Claire Brown Karen Bogie, Kay Smith and Chrisann O’Halloran looking on.
