Capacity audiences lap up Portree’s ‘Wizard of Oz’

It has been yet another hectic winter for  members of the Portree Community Panto Group, as they prepared their latest offering — Limelight’s ‘Wizard of Oz’.

The 118 members of cast and production crew met twice a week at Tigh na Sgire and Aros, rehearsing and preparing costumes and sets under the guidance of producer Lorna Cormack and directors Joan Corrigall and Ruaridh MacKenzie.

Everything finally came together last week as the group staged six performances at Aros, including two daytime shows especially for primary school children. The emphasis was on youth, with 92 members of the cast under 25. They performed to capacity audiences.

Among the rising stars on show were Eilidh Cormack as Dorothy,  Alannah Beaton as Olga, the Wicked Witch,  Hayleigh Wilson and Lucy Simpson as the Good Witches, Eryn Shinnie as Toto, Tanya MacDonald as the Scarecrow and panto regulars Anton Randle as the Tin Man, Nigel Wilson the Dame, Campbell Dickson  the Lion and Ruaridh MacKenzie as the Wizard

The group are to stage an “Oscars Night” in March, as reward for all their efforts.PORTREE-PANTO-2014---15
