The Skye, Lochalsh and Lochcarron Bowling Association Singles championship title remains with the Mackinnon household in Kyleakin.
This year, though, it wasn’t defending champion Chris who prevailed in the championship, but his wife Jill. Producing a superb display of bowling, Jill went through the whole day without losing a match and such was her dominance that most of her matches didn’t have to be completed.
In the semi-finals Jill outplayed Skeabost’s Steve Watkins, himself a previous winner, to set up a final against Kintail’s Kevin Lawley who had narrowly defeated Kyleakin’s Dave Nelson. A well-contested final followed the same pattern as Jill’s previous games, and Kevin shook hands with an end to spare.
The next SLLBA tournament is the pairs championship on 15th February. Before the pairs, however, Kyleakin, Kintail, Lochcarron, Mallaig and Plockton bowlers make their annual trip to Dumfries to compete in the Scottish Championships.
Meanwhile the SLLBA league is entering the second half of fixtures. Kyleakin Reds remain the team to beat, with 12 points from six games. Their nearest challengers are Lochcarron, Kyleakin Blues, Kintail, and Sleat — all on eight points from seven games.
