Hebridean Housing Partnership have withdrawn an application to build four houses at Baile na Cille in Balivanich because they do not own all the land.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar had approved the application, subject to conditions. The developers, Stornoway-based firm CalMax Construction Ltd, had confirmed that the landowners were HHP in their application, submitted in October 2013.
However, Angus Lamont, chief executive of HHP, told the Free Press this week that they had scrapped plans to build the houses on the current site.
He said: “We have decided to go ahead with another site in Balivanich. HHP does own the land at Baile na Cille which we had looked at developing but there were issues with ownership of some of the parking areas in the vicinity which made the site very difficult to progress.
“We are hoping — subject to planning permission — to build the four houses on HHP-owned land in the Winfield Close area.”
