As a result of last month’s successful Blue Light event in Portree, 19 young people have been presented with Saltire Challenge Awards. The youngsters, who had volunteered to assist at the multi-agency event, were presented with their awards at a ceremony in Portree High School this week. The Blue Light Disco was attended by around 150 young people, who enjoyed music from DJs Seri (aka Arron Nicol), Fraser Graham and Ross Macdonald, as well as the band Golden Mean. In addition, the event hosted a “chill-out room” to give young people an opportunity to engage with emergency services personnel and youth service agencies, finding out about their role in the community. Pictured are some of the recipients of the award – Megan Bain, Kaitlin Sheen, Stephanie Harper, Duncan Wood, Emma Hannah, Sara Khalifa, Eilidh MacAskill and Fiona Gillies – along with PCs Dean Gillies and Willie MacGillivray, Niki MacLean from Skye and Lochalsh Council for Voluntary Organisations and youth development officer Annie Davidson.
