The new BBC TV series based on the “Katie Morag” childrens’ books will begin this Sunday. Based on the popular series of books by author and illustrator Mairi Hedderwick, the series centres around Katie Morag who lives with her family on the fictional Scottish island of Struay. Filming for the CBeebies production took place on Lewis over the summer. Making her television debut as Katie Morag is eight-year-old Cherry Campbell from Glasgow, whose granny is from Lewis. Also starring in the series is Free Press Gaelic columnist Angus Peter Campbell who plays Neilly Beag — the island baker. A double bill of the first two 14-minute-long episodes of the Katie Morag series will be broadcast on CBeebies from 5.25pm.
