Skye songwriter hopes to clinch record deal

Skye girl Kristen MacBeth has been invited to sing at STV’s “Big Live” appeal event in Inverness today (Friday) to raise money for children affected by poverty.

Kristen (17) from Kyleakin sang three covers by Adele, Eric Clapton and Birdy at an earlier STV event, Songs in the City, which took place outside the Eastgate Centre at the end of last month.

“They obviously liked what I did so they invited me back,” said Kristen. As well as live performances in front of big crowds, Kristen — last year’s Portree High School talent contest winner — has also been working with Sleat-based producer Rick Taylor, who has sent a demo containing Kristen’s own songs to top producers in London.

“There are no guarantees in this business, but Kirsten is amazing — she’s the real deal,” said Rick, who has played trombone on tracks written by Elton John, George Michael and a host of other big names.

Kristen’s inspirations are Damien Rice, Paulo Nutini and Ellie Goulding and you can hear her song “Final Goodbye” on SoundCloud. The STV “Big Live” event kicks off at 7.30pm.
