Skye and Shiel share the spoils in lacklustre draw

Skye   1  Kinlochshiel    1

The Skye and Kinlochshiel reserves sides shared the spoils in the match which brought the curtain down on their campaigns for 2013.

Both sides were able to field strong line-ups for the derby in Portree — with Shiel including Keith and John MacRae and goalkeeper Scott Kennedy, while Nui MacDonald played between the posts for a Skye side which also included first-team regulars Jordan Murchison, Neil MacVicar and Chris Rose.

From the outset the game carried an end-of-season feel to it. In an opening 45 minutes where chances were few and far between Shiel made the breakthrough on the stroke of half time, when Ally MacRae’s deflected shot from 15 yards beat Nui MacDonald.

That strike looked like being good enough to give Shiel both points — particularly after keeper Kennedy produced a stunning save to deny Paul MacKinnon. But with just two minutes left the islanders equalised in bizarre style. Angie “Borve” MacDonald’s miscued effort spun high into the air before bouncing beyond the Shiel keeper to ensure the points were shared.

The result means Skye end the season in third place in the North Division One league table, while Shiel finish in bottom spot. League reconstruction, however, means both teams will be in the same league again next season.
