Lochalsh architect Ian Begg will be presenting his ideas for a planetarium near Kyle to the British Association of Planetarium’s annual conference in Newcastle today (Friday).
Next Monday, a public meeting on the subject will be held in the Lochalsh Hotel at 7.30pm.
Among those scheduled to attend are Ian McLennan from Vancouver, who is a world-wide authority on planetaria and digital theatres; Professor John Brown, Astronomer Royal for Scotland; Glenn Smith, director of Sky-Skan Europe who has developed and supplies digital theatre projection systems; and Gill Russell, an installation artist with experience in planetarium and digital theatre show production. There will be models to show the development of the idea.
Anyone with an interest is welcome to attend Monday’s meeting and ask questions.
Mr Begg originally proposed the idea of a planetarium at the launch of the Kyle and Lochalsh Communtiy Trust and said that his ideal site for the facility would be on a headland opposite the old toll office on the Skye Bridge.
